Savannah Chrisleyhas learned a valuable lesson about drinking and podcasting.

Chrisley praises Shiver for being a “positive influence” on her brotherGrayson, 17, and sisterChloe, 10. The reality star is currently caring for the pair since her parents,ToddandJulie Chrisley, werereportedto prison in January fortax evasion and fraud.

As for Shiver’s own legal trouble, the ex-football player — who is dad to three boys — allegedly survived his ex-wife Lindsay’s plot to murder him after he discovered her affair, perBahamas Court News. Lindsay and her alleged co-conspirators, Terrance Adrian Bethel and Farron Newbold Jr., were arrested thereafter. (It’s unclear whether they have entered a plea.)

“I want to have as much respect for him and his situation as possible because he has three amazing little boys that are going to have to see and hear things one day,” Chrisley tells PEOPLE. “So for that, I’m like, I’m just going to enjoy our families in the best way that I can and not make it such a whole public ordeal.”

Chrisley says she is “in such a happy place in life, despite all of the negative things that have happened.”

“I think this has just shown me that you can find beauty in the ashes. And so for that, wherever it leads, I’m grateful,” she adds.

As for how Chrisley is navigating the public attention she’s receiving lately, she shares: “It’s okay. I am used to it. I mean, I feel like when you have two parents who go to prison, you pretty much don’t care what anyone says. So luckily, I have tough skin.”

TheSpecial Forcesstar adds that “for the first time in my adult life, I have a relationship that I want to protect.”

“I had to learn the hard way and I let the world in on so much,” she concludes. “And now I’m trying to learn how to protect it and not give the world everything.”

PEOPLEbroke the news ofChrisley’s new romance in September. That same month, it was confirmed that her ex-fiancéNic Kerdilesdied in a motorcycle accident.
