After ashooting at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo., that killed at least one person at the end of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade, the NFL team shared a statement onX (formerly known as Twitter).
“We are in close communication with the Mayor’s office as well as the Kansas City Police Department. At this time, we have confirmed that all of our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and accounted for.”
“We thank the local law enforcement officers and first responders who were on-scene to assist,” concluded the statement.
The Chiefs' quarterback,Patrick Mahomes, also wrote, “Praying for Kansas City… 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽.”
His wife,Brittany Mahomes, wrote in an Instagram Story, “Shooting is never the answer. Praying for Kansas City & America in general, this is rough.”

“Highly embarrassed and disappointed in this, Super Bowl wins will never be the same because of this, it’s devastating,” Brittany wrote in a follow-up Instagram Story post. “Lives lost and people injured during something that was [supposed] to be a celebration. Horrible and traumatizing. So many prayers going to the families involved.”
“Please join me in prayer for all the victims of this heinous act," Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquil wrote. “Pray that doctors & first responders would have steady hands & that all would experience full healing.”

During the initial press conference, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said the shooting began on the west side of the city’s Union Station immediately after a rally honoring the Chiefs.
At the second press conference, Graves confirmed there was one deceased and 22 wounded, though authorities were still working on the total number of victims and identifying the deceased victim.
An active investigation was underway and the scene had been “cleared” and made safe while authorities continue to collect evidence and conduct interviews, Graves said.
“Three persons were detained and under investigation for today’s incident,” Graves added. “Right now we do not have a motive.”
Kansas City Fire Chief Ross Grundyson said that the injured included “eight immediately life-threatening, seven life-threatening and six were minor injuries.” The injured were transported to three different hospitals: Children’s Mercy, Truman Medical and St. Luke’s.

According to a PEOPLE reporter at the parade, loud pops rang through the crowd as the confetti came down while players departed the stage.
A woman attending the parade with friends told PEOPLE, “I saw two people bleeding on the ground and we got out of there as fast as we could run.”
Another woman with her husband and daughter started running as soon as she heard the shots. “When people start running like that, I knew it was something,” she said.
