Jonathan Scotthas finally gotten lucky in love — and he can’t get enough of new girlfriendZooey Deschanel.
TheProperty Brothersstar, 41, has had his ups and downs in the romance department. He got married in Las Vegas after a quick courtshipto an airline-crew scheduler in 2007, but after a tumultuous couple of years, the pair went their separate ways.
Then he was in a serious 2-year relationship with girlfriend Jacinta Kuznetsov and even talked about settling down. That relationship came to an end inApril 2018and left the famous contractor heartbroken and single for a long stretch. News of hisex’s engagement 8 months after their break-updidn’t help matters.
“We were shootingCarpool Karaoke,and there was chemistry right away,” Jonathan tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue of the first time he met theNew Girlactress, 40. The pair werespotted on a date in Los Angelesin September and have been inseparable ever since.
“We literally make each other laugh nonstop,” he says. “I have never been in a relationship where my partner is as romantic as, if not more romantic than, I am. I’m usually the one who carries the romantic load.”

And while they work in different parts of the entertainment industry, the lovebirds share plenty of interests, including a love of — and talent in — music, whichthey quickly bonded over, a source told PEOPLEshortly after they went public with their relationship. Zooey performs as half of the folk duo She & Him and Jonathan has recorded several singles with twin brother Drew.
Jonathan also can’t stop singing his new love’s praises. “She’s smarter than me, she’s funnier than me, and she’s cuter than me!” he tells PEOPLE. “She’s a very considerate person, and that’s what I’m looking for. I had said before that the most important thing for me was a sense of humor. But you have to be kind, and she definitely is.”

And he gets why news of their romance surprised some. “I don’t think it was expected. You know, what’s really funny to me is, yeah, you see online and on social media, the internet is obsessed and keeps posting [about us], but the funniest thing iseveryone’s like, ‘She’s dating who?!'”
His family is thrilled to see Jonathan happy, too.
“Linda and I have noticed that they connect on an individual level as well, which is great,” says Drew, who tied the knot with longtime love Linda Phan in Italy in 2018. “They’re both amazing humans, and we love the idea of having her in our lives.”

The twins have been on plenty of double dates — or triple dates with theirnewlywed older brother J.D. and his wife, Annalee. “We are total nerds, so our first double date with Jonathan and Zooey was dinner and an escape room. It was awesome,” says Drew.
And Zooey has received the sign-off from the rest of the Scott clan as well.
“It’s very, very important for me that the person I’m in love with also gets the approval of my whole family. Absolutely everybody has clicked with Zooey,” says Jonathan. He invited her as his date toJ.D.’s one-of-a-kind Las Vegas weddingearly on, a true test for any relationship.

“That was a big step, because all of a sudden that was the first time she was meeting all my family. It was amazing,” says Jonathan. “The fun thing too for me is she can go out, and she can work the room and talk to people, introduce herself. It’s a totally different experience for me.”
Drew recalls two standout moments in Zooey and Jonathan’s four months together so far: “Here’s what also makes her a rock star: She sang my dad’s favorite song, ‘Danny Boy,’ to him over FaceTime” and “she made Yorkshire pudding, which is my absolute all-time favorite.”
