There ’s something to be said for watching a concert with your own eyes , not arbitrate by the lens of a photographic camera or the fuzzy cover of a cellular phone , obsessively examine to capture it forever .
You ’ll only recollect hazy scraps and snip , like when the guitarist smash his Fender into the speaker and you got nip off in the eye by fictile shrapnel because you were right up front , and never move , never contribute an column inch to the intrude bunch , even though you had to pee really bad during the last three songs . Those are the moments that subject , the ones you ’ll hang onto , the ones you ’ll recount again and again in bar and on roadtrips . Or perhaps you ’re drunk , and you wo n’t remember anything , but the next day , you ’ll know you had a really amazing time , reciprocally relative to the size of your hangover , and by how wispy the prototype , sounds and aroma are that surge through your brainiac are .
Not that you were piss off for half an hour while you tried to hold your arm unwavering against the quaking crowd , clenching your entire body to forever freeze the perfect photo op , or wait for the most awesome possible meter to record a clip , stalking that transitory moment like target , just to upload it for your other friends who were halting and did n’t make it .

Those photos might be on Facebook forever , but what are you really memorialise for posterity ? A million smudged pixels that , if I squint , mistily resembles John Mayer ? A blown out recording of a birdcall that sounds kinda like a bad natural covering of that Grizzly Bear birdsong ? Oh , it ’s really Vampire Weekend . And it is “ Two Weeks . ” Oops .
Just because you’re able to document and share nearly every minute of your animation does n’t mean you should . Stop worrying so much about steal by with an image or a clip that dead crystallizes the dark , like a prize to amass , another document to catalogue , and just experience it . revel it . There ’s not a camera on the planet that can capture the fashion a concert makes you palpate . Take one picture . Mark the occasion . Then put your damn camera down .
