As part of a series of security updates to G Suite announced this workweek , Google says it ’s pilot a new monetary standard for email certification that will display a company or brand icon next to email that Google has verified as legit — a measuring stick that may help curb phishing and other malicious activity from speculative actors .
With the Brand Indicators for Message Identification standard , Google willbegin displayingbrand logo — from organizations with emails already authenticated using theDMARC organization — in those little user icon bubble in Gmail . so as to have their brand Word appear in your inbox and signal to you that the transmitter is who they say they are , brand will have to surpass an anti - abuse vetting process , which the society said would need a substantiation process from a pair of certification authorities , Entrust Datacard and DigiCert .
This check process should help oneself curb phishing try and help users easily identify when an electronic mail is coming from someone legit and not , say , a scammer strain to steal your shit . Google said it would be kick off the pilot program “ in the coming weeks with a limited number of senders , ” though BIMI could be adopted more widely afterward on down the route .

Seth Blank , chair of the AuthIndicators Working Group and VP of Standards and Technologies at Valimail , said in a program line that for those senders “ that want to make a trusted marque mien over e-mail , BIMI is a large opportunity , incentivizing them to implement strong authentication , which in turn will lead to a safe , more sure email ecosystem for everyone . ”
