The walk numb veers so wildly between ripe and bad , it ’s actually sort of fresh when an episode is plainly o.k. . Tonight ’s episode was just that : We got intrigue young information on the show’svery interesting newfangled baddie , we sawMichonnetake all sequence to make an important selection , we amaze a subplot that could n’t count less , someone is an imbecile , and there ’s a duet of pictorial murders . It ’s quintessential Walking Dead .
The theme of “ Guardians ” is , well , about protector — specifically Michonne andAlpha , and how they ’re protecting their people . Michonne , of course of study , is a total severe - ass who has essentially remove autocratic ascendance of Alexandria and operate the settlement down in an attempt to forcibly control everyone ’s safety . Meanwhile , Alpha has endangered herself and very possibly the Whisperers in her surprising , uncharacteristic attempt to rescue — sort of — her girl Lydia . Let ’s start with Alpha , because the Whisperers are stillpretty fascinating . Alpha babble out about how great it is they ’ve catch Henry , as it provides an advantage — that somehow they did n’t have when they had Alden and Luke?—but then that Nox decide to tells Lydia she has to shoot down Henry in monastic order to prove she has n’t gone soft . Lydia , who very much has gone soft , is clearly going to get both herself and Henry killed by Beta for failing to do it , when a zombie herd introduce the Whisperer inner circle and starts munching on people . But … isn’t the whole stage of the Whisperers that they can just hang out with zombi ? Was it only the mass who were n’t wear masks who were being eaten ?
I ’m in reality fine with the Whisperers cook no horse sense , mainly because they ’re the capricious horror that makes The take the air Dead both play and particular . Alpha is a unique baddie in how seriously and stormily she believe in inhumanity and discover her talk / menace her maskless , clean - apparel daughter while wearing a zombie ’s face never stopped being unnerving . Honestly , in a sense , I ’m a little disappointed that Daryl and Connie were capable to rescue both Henry and Lydia so rapidly during the mix-up and scare of the herd attack . It was fun seeing the Whisperers through their eyes .
Michonne , meanwhile , is finally back in Alexandria and pissed . Gabriel is the one to point out that Michonne has made the council that find Alexandria a joke , since she has veto big businessman over anything that might be a security risk , and she sees practically everything they do as a certificate peril , including operate to the Kingdom ’s funfair . She ’s effectively break the rule of law she helped make , and now the council is irrelevant . Judith , who continue to be deadly adorable while being wise beyond her years , forcibly reminds Michonne that whatever Negan did , he is still , in fact , a human being . When Michonne tells her that masses do n’t change , Judith ’s cry that “ You did ! ” rock-and-roll Michonne to her core . It ’s a corking moment , and extremely well - act by both . In the end , Michonne relents and let the council to have a real voter turnout on whether to go to the fair , and I ’m give Judith the winnings for that .
Honestly , if were n’t force to watch the love quadrangle of Rosita , Gabriel , babe daddy Siddiq , and hapless Eugene , this episode would be jolly all-fired expert . find out Gabriel prove to adjudicate if he want to keep his relationship with Rosita once he con she ’s having Siddiq ’s baby is pointless because of course he will . However , watching Eugene get multiple graphs detailing nett relationship happiness electric potential was fun , and I like the blastoff of Rosita , Gabriel , and Siddiq all entering the planetary house together to hash it out . But as dispute goes , it was unauthentic at well .
Still , if I want more difference , it ’s coming . Daryl and Hilltop have pound the stiff - look - wearing bear that is Alpha by rescue Lydia , and it ’s time for warfare again . Also , the Kingdom ’s fair is very obviously 100 percent going to be a shit - show that ends in many death , because people on The Walking Dead ca n’t have nice thing . Or , rather , they can , they just have to have eight awful things immediately afterward .

Also confusing : When Daryl shows up to rescue Henry , he says Lydia has to stay there . I would say the last instalment leaned pretty hard on the import that Daryl went to rescue them both , and even if he did n’t , Connie came expressly to help rescue Lydia . Also , in that confusion , there was absolutely zero risk at helping her leakage , too .
I really like that Alpha , and presumptively the quietus of the Whisperers , call zombies “ the thirsty ace . ” Way well than “ walkers . ”
I am not really up on my cognition of garrote damage , but can a man being literally tear off someone ’s head with one ? It seems … unlikely .
Oh , if you appear during the “ challenge ” scene , you’re able to see Lydia bear in the background , and she could not be less surprised , scared , or impressed that her mother just decapitate someone . This is dump she clearly sees all the time .
Good : Daryl training his dog to bring his arrows . Better : The pointer breakage because it is a stick and the domestic dog does not want to lease it go . Best : Daryl quietly muttering “ bad dog ” after it ’s already left .
