Less of a “ snow Clarence Shepard Day Jr. , ” more of a — and , yes , this is a real weather term—“bomb cyclone . ” The capital of Newfoundland , St. John ’s , was off with 30 inches of snow in 24 hours , shatter a premature record , the Weather Channel reported . Officials also recordedsnowdrifts as high as 15 pes on some highways , more than a few of which required help from Canadian armed forces to exonerate .
While the responsibility is no alien to blizzards , this storm ’s sheer ferocity prompted astate of emergencyon Friday . Between the record snowfalls and about hurricane - force play winds buffeting the area , one old-timer meteorologist of the area , Eddie Sheerr , call it “ the bad wintertime violent storm I have ever see . ” And judging from the footage he and other residents shared on Twitter , that ’s no magnification .

While the violent storm has since moved on towards Greenland , a land of hand brake remains in issue as some 7,000 residents still lack power , consort tothe Washington Post . That ’s down froman forecast peak of 10,000 peopleon Friday , but even quantify the rash ’s consequence remains a project in and of itself .
