well recognize as an iridescent swarm , a cloudbow is just what it sounds like : A swarm full of rainbows .
lensman and astronomer Oleg Bartunov catch this shot of a rare bank of iridescent clouds turn out above Thamserku mickle in the Himalayas — and then was able to fascinate several more views just before the phenomenon dissipated .
So what do this uncommon cloud sighting to occur ? The mechanics behind it are not entirely dissimilar to the I responsible for a classically - form rainbow . Like a rainbow , the colors are the issue of sunlight interacting with the prism of water . But while a rainbow is the outcome of the deflection of sunlight , changeable clouds are the result of diffraction of sunlightaround very tiny water droplet inside of clouds which spiral the colors out into all directions .
