There ’s been some question about how I do the snowshots . I ’ve given some verbal information about the proficiency , but I guess , a exposure about my frame-up is needed . So , I made the exposure above and below ( in the gallery ) just for the social function .
The setup is simple really : All I use is an older transparent CD storage box , some water and my trusty old A4 lightbox for lighting . For the bottom of the boxful I have a piece of gray Lego baseplate cut in shape and hotglued on a opus of acrylic sheet to give it some weight . Lego set float because of all the air pin inside single art object .
Anything I require to shoot is then easily mounted on the baseplate and inserted inside the CD box .
Photographing “ snow ” in this scale is hard , and to amp up the challenge I desire it to fly around . The reply was not to use quicker shutterspeed but to slow the blow down .
I had a wacky approximation to deluge everything in water , it slow up down everything that impress . The water also get light to reflect from solid surfaces in a way that sometimes helps hiding the miniature scurf . This is an older construct I ’ve been toying with for ages . For the nose candy I use flat coat poultice of Paris — reacted , not fresh gypsum powder ! It is a peaceful fabric that does n’t stick to anything .
Lighting is done with the lightbox freehand as you may see from the picture below .
I dash a pot of anatomy because the “ nose candy ” is insufferable to ascertain exactly . And then some Photoshopping is in order , but not always , sometimes none is call for .
