Monday night was eventful forAyo Edebiri— and not just because shewonher firstEmmy Award.The Bearstar also got to meet her childhood crushMatthew Macfadyen!
Macfadyen, 49, chimed in, imagining Edebiri’s dad’s response: “Who’s this guy in the coat?” Edebiri went on to describe his Mr. Darcy as someone with “beautiful hair.”

As it happens, Edebiri’s family was in the audience at the Peacock Theater on Monday as she was named 2023’s outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series win forThe Bear. During her speech, she thanked both her “found family” on the show — including castmates and fellow Emmy winnersJeremy Allen WhiteandEbon Moss-Bachrach— as well as her “real family.”
“I’m making them sit kind of far away from me because I’m a bad kid,” she quipped. “But I love you so much. Thank you so much for loving me and letting me feel beautiful and Black and proud of all of that. I just love you so much.”
Edebiri added, “Probably not a dream to immigrate to this country and to have your kid be like, ‘I want to do improv.’ But you’re real ones.”

Macfadyen’s work inSuccessionalso earned him the Emmy statuette in the outstanding supporting actor in a drama series category. He also give a heartfelt speech full of knowing joking as he gave a “special mention” to “my on-screen wife,Sarah Snook, and my other on-screen wifeNicholas Braun.”
He continued, “Acting with you has been one of the most wonderful things in my career. Thank you, Nick. Thank you, sir. It’s been a joy.”
Finally, he said, “Thank you to my actual wife,Keeley [Hawes], my love and my best friend for being here.”
