usually , the LRO has its camera pointing down on to the lunar Earth’s surface . But in this instance , NASA scientist had it pitch forward while near the synodic month ’s north pole , allowing the LROC Wide Angle Camera to capture Earth rising above Rozhdestvenskiy crater ( 112 miles [ 180 kilometer ] in diam ) .

Interestingly , the pic is a color composite plant of several greyscale frames , which can be seen in this brio :

When processing the image , however , NASA and Arizona State University scientists chose wavelength that match well with the human eye , so the color are very close to true . This is what the average person might actually see . to boot , the relative brightness of each physical object is right . And as you could see , the Earth is considerably brighter equate to the moon .
