According to a report fromNew York Daily News, the “In da Club” rapper, 43, was scheduled to attend an NYPD-sanctioned boxing match in June 2018 when deputy inspector Emmanuel Gonzalez allegedly made the threatening remarks.
A source told theDaily Newsthat Gonzalez — who reportedly had sparred with the star previously — said during a roll call at the 72nd Precinct in Brooklyn that his officers should “shoot [50 Cent] on sight” should the rapper make an appearance at the match.
Gonzalez allegedly passed off the claim as a joke, but an NYPD spokesman tells PEOPLE the department is taking the threat seriously.
“The incident is under internal review,” says NYPD detective Martin Brown.

Gonzalez’s beef with 50 Cent reportedly stems from an Instagram post the rapper shared after he learned Gonzalez was cracking down on the owner of Love and Lust, a club located in Brooklyn, last year.
In return, Gonzalez filed an aggravated harassment complaint against 50 Cent last spring, according to theDaily News.
